A room at our Pagosa Springs Hotel set up with a teddy bear, roses, and wine for Valentine's Day Weekend Getaways in Colorado

An Itinerary for Valentine’s Day Weekend Getaways in Colorado

Most Valentine’s Day weekends involve expensive dinners at packed restaurants, overpriced hotel rooms, and that lingering feeling that you’re celebrating romance the same way everyone else is. We think you deserve better.

Pagosa Springs offers a different kind of Valentine’s weekend, one where you can actually relax, where romance happens naturally instead of feeling forced, and where every moment isn’t orchestrated by some corporate playbook. This isn’t about red roses and prix fixe menus (though we’ve got those if you want them). It’s about horse-drawn sleigh rides on snow-covered trails, hot springs under mountain stars, and a stay at a Pagosa Springs Hotel that feels more like a retreat than a place to crash between activities.

Here’s how to spend a Valentine’s weekend getaway in Colorado that you’ll actually remember.

Friday Evening: Settle In and Slow Down

3:00 PM – Check Into Your Mountain View King Room

We designed our Mountain View King rooms for exactly this kind of weekend. When we updated these rooms, we weren’t thinking about trends or what some designer said we should do. We were thinking about the river flowing outside and the hot springs that make this town special.

The darker blue carpet has wave patterns that mirror the San Juan River. The teal accent wall brings in those calming water tones. Walk down the hallway, and you’ll see carpets inspired by the hot springs. And the new luxury Italian linens will no doubt make you want to sleep in the next morning.

If you’ve added one of our Romance Packages, you’ll be welcomed with chilled sparkling wine, decadent chocolates, and rose petals arranged in your room. It’s a quiet way to say, “this weekend matters.”

Drop your bags, look out at the mountains, and take a breath. You’re here now.

5:00 PM – Dinner at Meander Eatery

Ease into your first night with dinner at Meander Eatery, one of Pagosa Springs’ most intimate and thoughtfully curated dining spots. Seasonal small plates, creative cocktails, and a focus on fresh ingredients make this a great place to unwind after your travels. It’s the kind of dinner that sets the tone for the weekend without leaving you feeling rushed or overstuffed.

7:00 PM – Hot Tub and River Sounds

After dinner, head back to the inn for a soak in the indoor hot tub. It’s the perfect way to cap off your first night, just the two of you, letting the warm water and the quiet hush of the nearby river wash the travel day away. Back in your room, enjoy those chocolates and wine and toast to the start of a perfect weekend together.

Saturday: The Main Event

9:00 AM – Breakfast at Your Own Pace

Fuel up with our complimentary breakfast. The coffee is hot, the options are plentiful, and you can take your time without worrying about restaurant reservations or wait times.

10:00 AM Hot Springs

Now for the part everyone comes to Pagosa Springs for: Pagosa’s famous hot springs. Spend a few hours pool-hopping, finding your favorite temperature, and soaking away any lingering stress. The combination of hot mineral water, mountain air, and the spectacular San Juan Mountain backdrop creates an experience that’s both healing and romantic. Many couples find this is their favorite part of the entire weekend, with those quiet moments in the warm water, doing nothing but being together.

1:00 PM – Lunch at Patria

After soaking in the hot springs, stop for a relaxing lunch at Patria, a charming bistro located just outside of downtown on your way to Buckaroos. It’s an easygoing spot with warm service and a menu that works whether you’re in the mood for brunch (sweet or savory) or something heartier for lunch. Their seasonal bowls, breakfast burritos, and vegan-friendly options mean you’ll both find something to love—plus, it’s cozy enough to still feel like a date.

2:00 PM – Buckaroos Sweetheart’s Special

This is where your Saturday gets memorable. Buckaroos Horse-Drawn Rides runs their Sweetheart’s Special during Valentine’s weekend, and it’s everything you want from a winter sleigh ride without feeling cheesy.

You’ll ride in a horse-drawn sleigh through snowy meadows and forests on their private ranch, wrapped in warm blankets with mountain views in every direction. The ride includes charcuterie, sparkling drinks, and live piano music back at their cozy lodge with Johnny Keys. The entire experience lasts approximately 1.5 hours and includes a meet-and-greet with the magnificent draft horses. It’s the kind of old-fashioned romance that feels both timeless and entirely unforgettable.

4:00 PM – Back to Your Room

Come back to RiverWalk Inn to warm up and get ready for dinner. This is the perfect window for a short nap, a sauna session, or simply stretching out on those Italian linens and watching the light shift across the mountains.

5:30 PM – Dinner at Wild Finch

Saturday night calls for something special, and Wild Finch at The Springs Resort is exactly that. Set right on the banks of the San Juan River, their modern menu showcases local ingredients and global inspiration, from the fire-roasted artichoke dip to their signature steak dishes and seasonal seafood.

7:00 PM – Live Theatre at Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts

The Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts brings in professional talent from around the country for shows that feel way bigger than you’d expect from a 200-seat mountain town theatre. Thingamajig Theatre Company puts on Broadway-quality performances where every seat is close enough to see actual facial expressions.

9:30 PM – Cocktails at Hidden Track or Neon Mallard

End your Saturday with a drink somewhere that feels special. Hidden Track has creative cocktails, retro furniture, vintage guitars on the walls, and that orange neon sign that makes everyone’s photos look better. It’s intimate without being stuffy.

If you want something more eclectic, Neon Mallard serves craft cocktails in a fun, colorful space. Either way, you’ll find the perfect spot to toast your weekend together.

Sunday: Hot Springs and Home

9:00 AM – Sleep In

Sunday morning is for staying in bed longer than you should, ordering coffee, and not feeling guilty about it. Those Italian linens were made for Sunday mornings.

When you’re ready, grab breakfast downstairs. No rush. Checkout isn’t until 10:00 AM, but you can definitely linger over coffee.

10:00 AM – Downtown Walking and Coffee

Spend your late morning strolling through downtown Pagosa Springs. Browse local shops, grab a specialty coffee at a local café, and walk the San Juan River Walk. The compact, walkable downtown makes it easy to explore without feeling rushed. Pop into galleries showcasing regional artists or check out boutique shops for unique gifts.

12:00 PM – Lunch at Black Barts Before the Drive Home

Wrap up your weekend with a satisfying meal at Black Barts Brunch. This laid-back, locally loved spot specializes in breakfast and lunch favorites, with hearty portions and creative twists. Whether you’re craving a breakfast sandwich stacked high with eggs and bacon or a bowl of bibimbap, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a local before you hit the road.

After lunch, you might be heading home, but you’re leaving with more than photos. You’re leaving relaxed, fed, and with a newfound connection, which is the whole point.

Book Early or Miss Out: Valentine’s Day weekend is popular in Pagosa Springs. Reserve your Mountain View King room, Buckaroos Sweetheart’s Special, dinner plans, and theatre tickets well in advance.

Pack for Real Winter: February in the mountains means variable temperatures. Bring warm clothing for outdoor activities (thermal base layers, waterproof boots, insulated jacket, gloves, hat) and something nice for dinner and the theatre.

Add Romance if You Want: We offer romance packages with rose petals, chocolates, and sparkling wine. Add a package directly to your booking, and we’ll have everything ready upon your arrival.

Keep It Flexible: This itinerary gives you structure, but you don’t have to follow it exactly. If Saturday morning turns into reading in bed until noon instead of exploring town, that’s perfect. The point is connection, not checking boxes.

Have a Weather Backup: February weather can be unpredictable. If snow affects your outdoor plans, Pagosa offers plenty of indoor options like cozy restaurants, escape rooms, shops, art galleries, or simply staying in your room and enjoying each other’s company.
