Our RiverWalk team decided to tackle one of the hardest off-roading trails in Pagosa Springs. We started our day at the East Fork Campground located just 10 miles away from the hotel. We unloaded our toys in the parking lot and from there we made our way onto the trails.
The first couple of miles we pretty easy without any rocky terrain, but then it gradually gets harder. It takes about 40 minutes to get from the parking lot to the start of Elwood Pass, which is a high mountain pass, with the summit at 11,676ft above the sea level. Before the trail you can find a few hikes one of the better being Silver Falls is a very short hike from the trail
at about mile marker 8.
When you reach the top of Elwood Pass about 3 hours from the bottom you will come to a fork in the road. Take a left to go to Summitville, an old mining town or go right towards Platoro Reservoir. Those trips will add another few hours to your trip. Along the way there are many turn offs and different trails, few lakes you will have to go out your way to get to, and amazing views of the mountains.
